mad about plaid
blouse: JCPenney Outlet belt: Forever21 jeans: Charlotte Russe shoes: Gap I think I was trying to channel somewhat of a vaguely 60s vibe with this outfit… there may have even been some teasing of the hair involved just for kicks, although it’s a little hard to see in the picture. Oooor I could just be making up stuff to try to distract from my awkward posing :D Either way,...

fakin' it
dress: H&M blouse: Ann Taylor Loft [via my mother] belt: TJMaxx shoes: Minnetonka necklace: ModCloth I’ve always liked denim jackets, but I’ve never found one that didn’t look weird on me… so until now I’ve been content to merely admire them from afar. When I saw this denim blouse, I thought it’d be the perfect solution: close enough to look like one,...

tick tock
shirt: Old Navy (via JCPenney Outlet) cardigan: TJMaxx pants: JCPenney shoes: Target watch pendant: Ruche button earrings: made by my mother I admit that I designed this whole outfit around my watch pendant necklace that I just got in the mail yesterday from Ruche. I love it! It looks so vintage-y and old fashioned with the bronze color and the Roman Numerals. You’ll definitely be...

sunday best
sweater: Eci [thrifted] dress: Gap shoes: Maripe necklace: vintage [my grandma’s] Pretty standard ‘I sleep until ten minutes before church starts’ outfit. This is one of those great dresses that’s so simple you can wear anything with it to mix it up. I better quit wearing this sweater so much or I’m gonna get tired of it… I do love the color though!  I...

sweater hack
sweater: Target [via JCPenney Outlet] shirt: New York & Company belt: TJMaxx jeans: Charlotte Russe boots: Corso Como I guess the weather’s getting the memo that it’s fall now… halfway. The great thing about layering is that when it decides it’s still not ready to quit acting like summer halfway through the day, you can get rid of a layer or two. I’ve been...

fancy krispies
One of my new favorite treats are rice krispie treats with melted chocolate chips on top. I use the classic rice krispie treat recipe found on any rice krispie box or online. They’re relatively low calorie but the little bit of chocolate makes them so decadent and indulgent tasting! Plus they’re easy and cheap to make = winning.

i miss jeans
pants: JCPenney shirt (w/belt): JCPenney Outlet scarf: gifted from a coworker shoes: Target watch: Eddie Bauer (gifted) earrings: craft show A long week and this fall weather makes me miss college and wearing jeans any and every day I want. I have the hardest time finding pants to wear to work. They’re either hoochie mama tight or matronly loose. These are some brown ones I like but...

getting down to business
sweater: Eci [thrifted] blouse: Ann Taylor Loft [thrifted] pants: Gap shoes: J. Crew necklace: self-made ring: VT class ring purse: vintage [thrifted] I had an interview of sorts today, so I guess that means it’s time to break into the professional side of my wardrobe! My internship this summer was fantastic, but it was definitely not conducive to dressing like this, what with...

versatility
dress: Marshalls sweater: Ann Taylor (thrifted) belt: Target (thrifted) shoes: Target Yet another versatile dress. This dress actually has a high waistline but I created a different waistline with the cardigan and belt. I love generic dresses like that this you can create a hundred different looks with by using different sweaters/scarfs/jackets and shoes. It’s all in the accessories.  ...

easy minestrone soup!
Fall is in the air so I made this EASY soup to usher in the new cool season! This is originally from my Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook but I altered it a bit. I also usually double the recipe below so I have enough for two dinners with some leftover to freeze. I don’t eat beef so I’m a big fan of beans and veggie concoctions.   1 box of chicken broth 1 can of kidney beans,...

pumpkin chocolate chip muffins
Fall is sort of close by, and pumpkin anything = fall! Although I would be lying if I said I only eat these this time of year… there’s pretty much a constant supply of these bad boys in my house at all times. Make at your own risk; they’re extraordinarily addictive. what you will need… 3/4 c sugar 1/4 c vegetable oil 2 eggs 1 c canned pumpkin 1/4 c water 1/2 tsp...

Thrifting Queen: Makeover Edition
About a year ago, I bought a dress a Goodwill, which I later decided was unattractive. It was all boob on the top, but an awkward matronly length on the bottom.   After reading a tutorial on Emily’s blog, I decided this dress was destined for a different future and with my Grammie’s help transformed it into this: skirt: thrifted and made over shirt: Polo Ralph Lauren (thrifted) ...

thanks, mom!
dress: vintage [Talbots] belt: thrifted purse: vintage shoes: Minnetonka Sometimes there are advantages to cleaning out closets and things… aka finding cute/free clothes! This was an old dress of my mom’s, and I’m quite excited that a) she kept it [I see old pictures of her and am like ‘where is that outfit and why do you not still have it so I can take...

dress: TJMaxx sweater: JCPenney Outlet belt: thrifted shoes: TJMaxx earrings: made by my mom So my boss has only ever given me three compliments on my appearance. Two of those three compliments have been when I’ve worn this red dress. Today was one of the BUSIEST DAYS AT WORK EVER. I have a looming deadline on a grant and I also had to make a presentation in front our Foundation...

all dressed up
dress: Forever 21 [thrifted] shoes: thrifted necklace: ModCloth bag: vintage I love dresses for many reasons, chief among them that they can be an instant outfit with no additional effort while simultaneously making it seem like you put way more effort into your appearance than you actually did… this is a weird paradox that’s always kind of intrigued me: “oh hey!...

peanut butter cups!
So I thought I liked Reese cups - until I made my own and realized how superior the homemade variety is. And they’re SO easy. All you need is peanut butter, chocolate chips, powdered sugar, and cupcake liners. First, melt about half a bag of chocolate chips and coat the insides of the cupcake liners. Put chocolate as far up the sides as you want. I made two sizes - mini and big. Next,...

button bobbies
I found a great tutorial on pinterest for making bobby pins decorated with buttons so my mom & I decided to give it a shot. Supply list:  bobby pins buttons of your choice needle thread glue gun The hardest part was picking out which buttons to use!  After getting your supplies together, all you need to do is stitch the button onto the bobby pin. This ensures that the button sits...
