Cait & I met up for lunch today, and let me tell you, nothing brightens up the middle of a cloudy, stressful work day like one of your best friends + Mexican food. And can we talk about how every night I ambitiously lay out a sleeveless or short sleeve top for the next day, only to realize in the morning that that’s crazy and have to add a cardigan for warmth? Finally, happy birthday to my little brother! It’s seems like not long ago when we were throwing you a Barney themed party for your second birthday - and let’s be real, I was thrilled too. I stinking loved Barney.

traditions

Mexican night with my girls tonight! I can’t think of a better way to kick off the weekend than a Thursday night dinner out - which is why it’s a good thing we get dinner almost every Thursday night :) Is anyone planning anything fun for the weekend? I’m house/dog sitting this weekend but I’m hoping to still go do some things Saturday during the day and catch up on my reading and TV shows. And my sleep.

all gold everything

The world has been conspiring against me lately in terms of blog posts! I had to go to Richmond Monday for work so no pictures, and then our wireless router died at home. The new router got here in the mail but of course we couldn’t get it in operation last night. And tumblr wouldn’t let me upload pictures from my iphone. Major fail! But finally, at long last our shots from Tuesday’s lunch with Cait, where I obviously planned to match the scenery. Because I’m that coordinated. As you can tell from my blogging frequency these days…

full house

My brother doesn’t usually say much about my outfits but today he was like, “That’s pretty cool how your socks show above your boots…Actually, that’s pretty sick.” Ha. I took these directly before leaving for my grandparents’ house for Thanksgiving. There’s only 8 of us in the house tonight but we’ll have 17 for the main event tomorrow. Oh, and a whole pack of dogs. As long as my dog doesn’t steal my grandfather’s prized turkey leg (again) this year, we should be good.

anything could happen

I actually had my act together today and was prepared with camera in hand when I met Caitlin for lunch! And who knew the mall could be such a pretty background! (Except for one man who yelled “smile!” at us from across the parking lot.) I’m really excited it’s almost the weekend, I just found out I got one of the small-ish grants I wrote recently, I’m super excited I’m now a proud iPhone owner, and I’m thankful to be spending Thanksgiving with about 20 of my relatives next week, including all four of my grandparents. This is shaping up to be a very good fall. P.S. Yes, the title is a reference to Ellie Goulding. You’re too good.

Bordeaux, Merlot…Oxblood?

I’m especially glad that I bought these bordeaux colored boots last year now that oxblood is suddenly the color of the season. But I would like to formally petition against that horrendous name. Must we call it something that calls to mind entrails and beasts of burden? No. We should not. Bordeaux, merlot, burgundy, maroon, wine, anything. But not oxblood. Who’s with me?

a nice breeze

I had to get up two hours early today to get to a workshop out of town so this non-wrinkle skirt was perfect for riding in the car. I wore a tan blazer over it for the actual workshop but it’s so humid out that all I didn’t need it the rest of the day. I love this skirt SO much. Although - I had a near Marilyn Monroe situation while filling up at a gas station. Maybe instead of pictures I should post a video of me dancing in front a fan for full outfit effect. Ha.

anything goes

Sometimes, after I pick up face wash and shampoo in Walmart, I cut through the clothing on my way to the Yoplait yogurt. And that’s how I ended up with this cotton sundress. Is everyone else suffering from insane temperatures?? My poor dog has quickly learned to pull towards the houses that have sprinklers running so she returns from every walk soaked. I think she has the right idea to beat the heat though.

hungry eyes

In a glorious bargain shopping coup, I just found these strappy Aigner sandals for $11. And yes, it is appropriate to use military vocabulary to describe this feat, at least in sbk’s world. My mom had a pair that looked almost identical to this in her 20s so she was excited when I found these too. Also, the ankle strap detail reminds me of Baby’s silver heels in Dirty Dancing...and that youtube search has now caused me to want to waste the rest of the evening re-watching Dirty Dancing on Netflix…

blustery day in the neighborhood

Two of my grandparents had birthdays this past week so I’m out of town at one of my gparents’ house this weekend. The day started off with both golden retrievers and my grandparents’ new spca pup, ginger, leaping onto my bed. Don’t be fooled by these pictures - I wore a coat today. Snowflakes were floating around a good bit of today and the wind is out of control, just like the dogs in my last picture. Happy weekend, everyone!
