I had to attend our annual Distinguished Alumni dinner last night, which is a fairly fancy event at the country club here in town. My Michael Kors outfit even made my brother’s (very successful) Instagram account. But this dress isn’t just Michael Kors - its bargain Michael Kors since I only paid $9.99 for it. Oh yeahhh.

Short work week this week! When I first tried on this skirt, I thought it was a dead ringer for a 1970s ugly couch. But it grew on me. I have embraced the wool skirt. Also, I didn’t forget to cite my tights, I just have no clue where any of my tights/hose are from. Any of them. I just open up the drawer and its like a bunch of nylon snakes and I fight to untangle one and that’s that. A truly inspirational fashion tale. Also, is anyone on instagram? I am finally! I’m sbkeyser if anyone wants to follow along.

A lot of times when I’m bored with my clothes or just feeling lazy, I go virtual shopping on pinterest and then try to recreate a look. So if this outfit looks familiar, it’s because Kendi did it first. Today was a big day for me - I submitted the National Science Foundation grant I’ve been working like mad on the last few weeks, all 57 pages of it! Victory! p.s. Previous ways I’ve worn this dress here and here.

I’m especially glad that I bought these bordeaux colored boots last year now that oxblood is suddenly the color of the season. But I would like to formally petition against that horrendous name. Must we call it something that calls to mind entrails and beasts of burden? No. We should not. Bordeaux, merlot, burgundy, maroon, wine, anything. But not oxblood. Who’s with me?

- scarf: vintage Pendleton (thrifted)

Remember my vintage Pendleton skirt? Well, I saved the hem I removed from it and decided it would make a pretty sweet infinity scarf. Two pieces in one, for one low thrift price? Yes, please. I was really busy today, and it was surprisingly hot. But I had pumpkin chocolate chip muffins for breakfast, my new office is now filled with plants, (including an orchid in bloom!), and I’m currently finishing my day by catching up on Newsroom (which is surprisingly, even dangerously good, btw). Hope everyone else is having a great Monday!

I’ve been meaning to get this dress on the blog since May. Finallyyy, got around to it today. But, it reminds me of this quote I recently came across, “Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.” That sort of sounds like the procrastinator’s life motto, but it’s just so true in today’s busy world.

- shoes: Born via Eddie Bauer
- blouse: J.Crew
- ring: DIY
- watch: Michael Kors
- belt: thrifted
I’ve had this skirt for so long that I have no memory of purchasing it so I have no clue where it’s from. I do love the pale yellow color though - so springy! I just cleaned out my closet over the weekend and got rid of a couple boxes of clothes. But days like today where I wear several pieces I’ve had for many years, I start to question the wisdom of getting rid of stuff! But then, I’ve told you before I have hoarder tendencies..

This is still one of my favorite skirts. It made me happy just to put it on this morning (and it doesn’t hurt that the elastic waistband makes it pretty comfortable). Also, my bun looks kinda super massive today, but I don’t have a sock in there, promise. In other news, my own personal war against ticks continues. I bathed the dogs last night and got six off of one of them alone. Not cool, tickies. Not cool.

Nothing is worse than working on a holiday when pretty much everyone else is most definitely not working. In fact, most everybody at work ended up still taking the day off even though we weren’t officially closed, so I took this opportunity to protest my work day by wearing denim. And drove home after work through neighborhoods thick with the smell of cookouts. Oh well, in just a few weeks I’ll be at the beach (!) for a much needed break.

You wouldn’t know it from looking at these pictures that I stayed up late to iron this dress last night! Oh well. And because I don’t believe in acting like my life is perfect for the sake of the internet, I’ll be real with you guys - today was a case of sbk and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. A million little reasons led up to me being weepy by the time I got home (in fact you can see a teardrop on the close up of my dress where I started melting down again during these shots). But tomorrow is a new day.
