Introducing our beautiful guest blogger and best friend, Lucy!!

How is it that I’ve lived less than a mile from this charming little pond for over a year yet never paid a visit? Well, better late than never I suppose. Even though I’ve missed out on numerous pond excursions and adventures (…haha…) due to my lack of neighborhood exploration, I’m kind of okay with it because I think it’s really fun to discover new places with friends (and then taking lotssss of pictures for documentation!). Friends who just so happen to write a daily style blog and are kind (/crazy?) enough to invite me to guest post!
When SB and Cait first mentioned to me that they were going to start a fashion/DIY/cooking blog I was so excited for them (and for me, the more outlets to stalk my best friends, the better)! However, when SB asked if I’d like to periodically guest post, I was a little unsure. I know that this apprehension was (/is) rooted in my own insecurities. First of all, I don’t cook or bake. What would I do? Take pictures of lean pockets and turkey sandwiches? Umm, no. Secondly, I don’t consider myself ‘fashionable’ in any sense of the word. Nearly half of my wardrobe has been around since my days at Carlisle (circa 2005/2006) and until very recently you’d be hard pressed to find me in anything other than a pair of jeans and a plain, monochromatic shirt (if it was summertime this killer combo would be paired with rainbows and in the winter you’d find me donning some pretty sexy Birkenstocks that I’ve had since sophomore year of high school). So, needless to say, I didn’t think I’d have much to contribute to TLB (I’m still highly skeptical…). All of that ridiculous self-doubt aside, I love my friends and feel very touched that they want me to be a part of this creation. So, here I am. Thanks again, Cait and SB!

This weekend, Cait & I went to Raleigh to get together with our besties Lucy and Megan. Beforehand, we had a fun joint photo shoot. It was great to catch up and spend some quality time together, because that doesn’t happen enough these days. And Lucy agreed to let us take pictures for a guest post so get excited! Coming very soon!

Oh man. Where to even begin with this?! Halloween is the best excuse to dress as ridiculously as you possibly can, and I’d say we were successful. These costumes have been in the works since probably last March or so, when we found these ‘Tracy’s Nails’ smock things during one of our many pilgrimages to MegaThrift [check it… this place is amazing]… cue the lightbulbs!?! Epic Halloween costumes?! I think yes.

Time to take this one and ruuuuun as far as you can. I immediately knew this was the perfect opportunity to rock an insane beehive [if it were socially acceptable I would totally do this more often…. ha] and even more insane gold talon-y fake acrylic nails, while SB went the classier [but equally heavy-handed with the hairspray] route with crazy curls and fire engine red nails. Pile on as much garish makeup as you can and I think we have a winner!

Cait, Luce, and SBK before we headed out to unleash the ridiculousness on the rest of the world [aka Chapel Hill]. Not many people dressed up… it was kind of disappointing. Guess that’s what happens when Halloween is actually on a Monday.

Reunions are always awesome, especially when they include friends you’ve had for 10+ years who you don’t get to see nearly often enough. All four of us went to school together beginning in sixth grade and more or less went to college together too as much as we saw each other :]

We usually plan an epic Blue Ridge Parkway trip once a year in the summer, but this year we decided to mix it up a bit so we could include the best all-you-can-eat homestyle cookin’ this side of your grandma’s kitchen: The Homeplace in Catawba, VA. If you’ve never heard of it/been there, I feel sorry for you and you should remedy that as soon as humanly possible - it is divine [and I never use that word in any kind of seriousness.. ha].

This is the kind of place where you don’t eat at all prior to going there, and you can’t eat until two days later; where gluttony is acceptable, even encouraged: when you’ve got all that fried chicken and homemade biscuits and mashed potatoes & gravy and pinto beans etc staring you in the face, you don’t ask questions - you just shovel it in. And you love every second of it.

Not to mention, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous, especially now that the leaves are changing! Perfect for tons of gratuitous photos :D
