Hello again! Sorry it’s been a little while since I’ve updated - had to work this big carnival at school on Saturday, and then I’ve been enjoying having the house to myself since then. My parents took a vacation on the way to go pick up my sister from college, so I’ve been taking advantage of having a very nice, well-stocked kitchen to myself! I’m excited to know that I can concoct tasty, and surprisingly healthily I might add, things to eat when circumstances will no longer allow me to take advantage of my mama’s cooking :)

I’m probably more excited about my new necklace that I made a couple of days ago than I should be :D Online shopping and looking through Pinterest has made me want to revisit my jewelry making ambitions… haha. The only place around here to get beads and such is JoAnns, and these white faceted beads were about all I saw there that appealed to me, so I ordered a few different strands online too… you’ll probably be seeing something made from those soonish!

The quest to get my camera and the sun to cooperate continues! At least the sunshine means I get to break out another ginormous pair of sunglasses… always a good day when that happens :D This pair is so well-loved [aka has been sat on and smashed in my purse, etc] that they will barely stay on my face now, but I like them too much to toss them… just have to remember that sudden movements are not allowed while wearing them haha.

I ran in another 5k this morning, so I initially wasn’t planning on leaving the house any more today… I got about a three hour long nap in this afternoon though, so I ended up heading out to run a few errands, aka here’s one of the rare occasions I look semi-presentable on the weekend :D I got this purse last weekend when my mom and I went on an epic thrifting spree [four Goodwills in one day? yeahhhh]… it’s pretty magical in that it fits like five times the amount of stuff that you’d think it could.

Today turned out to be really busy, so I’m glad I went for a comfy outfit! Although by the end of the day, the sweater had to go because it’s decided to get back up into the mid-seventies again. Not that I’m complaining :D Perfect convertible weather [disregard the messy hair], perfect hanging out outside taking pictures of the third graders trying to launch a Japanese paper balloon, perfect find any excuse possible to be outside weather! Maybe I’ll move my desk outside tomorrow….

Reunions are always awesome, especially when they include friends you’ve had for 10+ years who you don’t get to see nearly often enough. All four of us went to school together beginning in sixth grade and more or less went to college together too as much as we saw each other :]

We usually plan an epic Blue Ridge Parkway trip once a year in the summer, but this year we decided to mix it up a bit so we could include the best all-you-can-eat homestyle cookin’ this side of your grandma’s kitchen: The Homeplace in Catawba, VA. If you’ve never heard of it/been there, I feel sorry for you and you should remedy that as soon as humanly possible - it is divine [and I never use that word in any kind of seriousness.. ha].

This is the kind of place where you don’t eat at all prior to going there, and you can’t eat until two days later; where gluttony is acceptable, even encouraged: when you’ve got all that fried chicken and homemade biscuits and mashed potatoes & gravy and pinto beans etc staring you in the face, you don’t ask questions - you just shovel it in. And you love every second of it.

Not to mention, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous, especially now that the leaves are changing! Perfect for tons of gratuitous photos :D

Finally, some blue sky! This is an outfit I wear a lot during the summer [minus the cardi] so I thought I’d give it what may end up being its final send-off for the year; plus, aren’t you supposed to not wear seersucker after labor day? Or is that just white shoes? Or am I just making up stuff? Not like I follow any of those conventions anyway… haha. Besides, any skirt with pockets deserves to be worn all the time. I also am realizing that all the jewelry I’ve been wearing lately has been from my grandmothers… either they have awesome taste or I have the taste of an old lady, both of which I suspect to be true :D

Daily dilemmas: it’s hot outside but my office is freezing. I can wear jeans on Friday but still want to be presentable. This is my solution. For today, anyway. Man I love Fridays.

This title has nothing to do with my outfit. However, I did listen to Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine about six times in a row at work today so I’m pretty sure its appropriate. It’s finally getting below the 90s so I’m already busting out my scarves! And that is my MASSIVE work bag. What’s in it, you say??:
- yellow clutch holding my wallet, keys, chapstick, phone, etc. etc.
- ipad
- lunch bag
- umbrella
- bag of pens (I’m obsessed)
- The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
- random assortment of cords & chargers
- notepad
